District Treasurer Lioness Erika
Thorner (Peter)| Lioness Erika was born
in a little town called Brandenstein in East Germany, and moved to West
Germany in 1949. She is the only girl of four brothers, her youngest
being 14 years older and her eldest brother 22 years her senior. Due
to the circumstances of the war, she did not get to see he father until
she was 7 years old. Lioness Erika completed her education in Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1959. She had no knowledge of the English language upon her arrival. She lived in Toronto for the first four years. During this time she attended several night school classes including an English language class for what they then called "English Classes For Newcomers". She married her husband, Peter, in 1963 and moved to Newmarket, where they raised three children, two sons and a daoughter and now has five grandchildren with one more due in October. Lioness Erika worked at Sears at the Upper Canada Mall for 13 years as a Sales Associate in the children's department. Lioness Erika has been a Lioness for 20 years and is a Charter Member of the Newmarket Liones Club. She has served as Vice President and President twice. She has chaired many functions, as well as initiaiting the Newmarket Lioness Clubs Annual Golf Tournament. She is a recipient of the Lions Clubs Camp Kirk Foundation Fellowship as well as being a Life Member of the Lions Foundation of Canada. Lioness Erika has travelled extensively throughout Europe, and enjoys many other activities such as cooking, baking, reading and listening to classical music. Her favourite activity, however, is spending time around the swimming pool with her grandchildren. Lioness Erika is proud to be a Lioness. |
