Lioness Ruth was born at York County Hospital (now Southlake Regional Health
Centre), and grew up in Vandorf. She is the youngest of four, one sister
and two
brothers. She attended S.S. #2 Whitchurch Public School and Dr. G.
W. Williams
Secondary School in Aurora. She worked for a year, and then attended
Shaw's
Business College in Toronto. She worked for five years at Zurich Insurance
Company
in Toronto as a stenographer. She is currently a member of Wesley United
Church, and
at one time sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.
Lioness Ruth married Dave and moved to Newmarket. They raised a son
and two
daughters, and now have eight grandchildren.
She worked for many years with her
husband
in the family business, Arrow Auto Body
, but now is semi-retired and
working for O'Malley's Catering in Newmarket.
She joined the Newmarket Lioness Club in 1987 and
has served as Tail Twister,
Treasurer and 2nd Vice President, and President twice. She has also
chaired many
committees,
and served as Regional Representative for Region 45 in 1995-96,
Treasurer in 1996-97, District Second
Vice President in 1999-2000, First Vice
President in 2000-2001 and District
President in 2001-2002.
Lioness Ruth enjoys many activities. To name a few, they are walking,
reading,
volunteering, and spending time at the family cottage in Parry Sound. Lately
she has
taken up a little traveling also.
